For our first draft of the music video we were given several points that we should improve on, and what we could do in order to do that. In this section I will be discussing the different points of feedback that we received, whether we will add this to the video (or not), and reasons why we did or didn't act on the feedback we received.
The first point of feedback that we had received was that Omar’s face was not shown, and therefore the audience will not be able to recognise the artist. To fix this, they had given us advice to re-shoot some shots where he is not wearing a mask, and also add more lighting to the shot where he is slowly tilting his head down. However, this was done intentionally, as we wanted to give the artist anonymity in the beginning using the mask, as we wanted to create a link between him and the dancer, who is also masked. We also decided to keep his face partially darkened out, which shows how even after revealing himself, he still feels sorrow, which is exaggerated through the lighting of his face. Overall the reason for not changing this is because we purposely did this to add dramatic effect to the video, and the inspiration for keeping the character mostly anonymous throughout the video came from the music artist ‘Sia’.
The second point of feedback was that we should make the link between the characters much clearer, by adding more scenes that show that the characters are the same person. However, we do not want to make it too literal and too easy to understand, as by making only one shot showing that they are the same person, we are able to make it so that the audience has to think about why and how the artist turned into the creepy mime figure.
