Genre-Swap

In this project we had to become very creative and create a music video using electro music video conventions whilst using Michael Jackson's song, Billie Jean as the music, which is in the pop genre.
  • The first step we had to take when researching was to find different music videos which were in the electro genre.

  • Some examples of music videos we used were Ylvis - What the Fox Say, Martin Garrix - Animals and Skrillex - Bangarang.

  • Through these videos we looked for common conventions, such as a retro theme (which is a 20th century view of what the future would look like), bright and neon coloured lights and crazy and flashy characters.

  • To plan the video we firstly created a blocked plan which outlined the shots we would create, which included the camera angles and mise-en-scene.

  • Once we had set out a blocked plan we created a story board by hand. In this we drew out what we hoped the shots would look like. At first we had planned to use normal action figures, however when the actual shooting came we decided to use lego figures instead due to the greater number of them available, and their flexiblity when moving them shot by shot, as we had to create a stop-motion video.
